Run, Carrie, Run!

I've been running a little bit.  I started back at the end of April...slowly...  I kind of followed the C25K running plan, modifying it a bit.  By the end of July, I "ran" a 4mile  race up at Greenbluff.  I ran it with my best friend and we ran the whole way.  Our pace was around 13:20 (I can't really remember).  Our goal was to have fun :), and we did!  I continued training to run a 10k on October 9, 2011.  It was part of the Bloomsday Road Runners Club and there was a marathon, marathon relay, half marathon, and 10k that day.  In case you're wondering, a 10k is 6.2miles.

I trained for 10+weeks, running 2-3 times a week, and slowly adding mileage.  I had a goal to Finnish in under 1:15, preferably around 1:10, for an 11:30ish pace (which is what I was running consistently for long distances).

The day before the race, I took the kids down to grab my number and chip.  It was a beautiful day!  It was also on our way up to Greenbluff for some  pumpkin and apple picking (post on that to come!).

The race was on Sunday.  It was a bit chilly, but beautiful outside.  Miles loves these runners, so I had to get this pic...haha!  We met Ben's parents downtown and they helped Ben watch the kids and hung out at Grandpa Tom's office.

Like I said, it was chilly, so Isla was bundled!  Speaking of which...I need to begin the search for some new winter hats.

The course was great and followed the centennial trail along the river the whole time.  It backed on itself once.  I ran it by myself, but met and chatted with a few people along the way...love the racing atmosphere!

I finished in 1:10:33, possibly closer to 1:10 because they only had ending chip times, not beginning times and I didn't cross the start line for a few seconds after the horn went off.  I met my goal, ran the whole way, and now have this t-shirt to show for it :).
I'm thinking of running the Jingle Bell 5k in November and hopefully training for a half marathon or two next year!  Ack!  I caught the running bug :)

  1. Good job Carrie, you did AWESOME!!!! This is the first shirt that I actually really like. I'm going to run the Jingle Bell Run, so maybe I'll see you down there again. :)
